My Big Adventure

March 29, 2008 at 10:52 pm (Uncategorized)

Well, the blog is going great! No one has visited yet. I haven’t figured out how to load up my photos yet and still have strangers displayed in the corner there. I will figure this out because- I need to load up the pics I took yesterday of my big adventure. Actually, I dragged Tigerlily and Tony to go with me too. They wanted to go, but just to see, I was the real participant. It all began about two weeks ago. I decided I was going to drive all the way to Encinitas to take spinning lessons. I found a great lady at the yarn store, Common Threads. Her name was Jeri, she is no way affiliated with the store, she just volunteered her services to have paid lessons there. I drove up at the last minute and got there 1/2 into someone elses lesson. I felt badly for her, she had her adorable baby girl with her, but it was obvious she wasn’t getting much doen because she kept needing to deal with the baby. This was the reason I went alone. I got a whopper of a lesson. Jeri is a great and patient teacher. Then, another lovely lady came to the back, an indie dyer named Julie Soto. Her company is Natasha’s Handspun. I bought some roving form her it was so lovely ( I don’t even have my wheel yet…) They continued my lesson together with Julie showing me how to ply what I had just spun! It was amazing. Then they told me they were going to go buy fleeces – the whole sheared sheep’s coat. I really wanted to go and begged her to call me. we kept in contact through Ravelry here…and then it was time!!

We drove out to Descanso yesterday, it was a 45min drive and ended up out at a little farn on top of this BIG hill. The lady who lived there is named Eileen. She had ten sheep being shorn. We sat and watched and Jeri patiently showed me the highlights and lowlights of each fleece. It was so fun!!! I learned so much! I love learning. My goal as I am a teacher, is to go everyday learning something!! I have to . It courses through me like a disease…. anyway we were there from 4-6pm after a full day of substitute teaching at my son’s High School – La Jolla High. I had a great day. Long and exausting, but amazingly fun. Tiger andTony spent the time petting cows, chasing lizards, and talking to the herding dogs. They had fun too. Such a different life out there, out in the edges of society…out in the wilds….

Now I have five fleeces to process, soon. I already don’t have enough time in my day, I may send some off to a company to do for me, we’ll see…

Anybody guess on my other post?? My husband has Hep C and HIV infection from the great Hemophiliac Decimation of 25 years ago. There is a group called the Committee of 10,000. COTT. They represent the hemophiliacs that were infected by the tainted blood companies like Bayer and others flooded the market with. They infected wifes and other, on accident and nothing was ever the same. Our lives are different everyday too. We definitely understand the importance of now, the beauty of having each day, not wasting our time on petty things. Life is so short. We are so lucky that the protease inhibitors came when they did. We have today, and so far, tomorrow too….

Second day

Okay want to know something about me and my lovely family…here’s a puzzle, maybe you can go sort it all out. My husband is a hemophiliac…he is 44 years old…something happened to the Hemophiliac community 25 years ago…they became the ‘canaries in the coal mine..’ so to speak. It was tragic. So, he is a long term survivor too. My daughter we had together was our little miracle. She is a carrier. If you can figure out what he has – I’ll send you something…hmmm, what to send- sock yarn…so, you need to know he’s a hemo, and his age, that should get you there. And, maybe just get some more people informed about the drug companies and their bad behavior…I know think? Name the ‘troubles’ he has, and i’ll randomly pick a winner. anyone else know a hemophiliac? If you want to start with a drug company go to bayer pharmacuticals and see what you find…..
